A memory picture for a text
Medieval readers memorised long texts with initials like this one: the text's first letter holds the whole text, one compartment per passage, walked in a fixed order. This page does the same for : its holds stations.
- Look — the picture with a one-line label per compartment: the outline of the whole text.
- Read — one station at a time. Picture says what the compartment shows; Text or Summary gives the passage; Original points to the source, or shows your own copy of it.
- Illuminate — when a passage is yours, press its seal: its compartment and the ornament around it are painted from ink into pigment and gold.
Click a compartment or a label to open its station; ← → walk the trail. The View menu changes the language, the notes on the page and the later-history layer.
